Jefferson Township Community Band and Jazz Band to open Summer Gazebo Concert Series

It is with great pleasure and pride that the Jefferson Arts Committee’s Gazebo Committee announces that The Jefferson Township Community Band and Jazz Band will open the 2011 free summer concert series on Friday evening, June 24th at 7 PM at the gazebo located in the Jefferson Township Municipal Complex, 1033 Weldon Road, Lake Hopatcong, NJ. This concert is being sponsored by the Jefferson Township Public Library.

The Band is composed of enthusiastic every day people of all ages who enjoy music, performing, and continuing their musicianship. In existence since 1992 under the direction of Pete Tummillo, a former band director at the Jefferson Township High School, the band continues to broaden its horizons, challenge itself with new music, and recently added a jazz band component to its list of accomplishments.

Their music encompasses the classics, Broadway musicals, standard marches, and patriotic salutes while the Jazz Band ensemble will play some familiar favorites. Membership is open to all regardless of age and musicianship and there are no auditions.

New this year, enjoy “Uncorked,” an exciting township-based improv troupe (part of the Jefferson Community Players) who will perform during intermission at each summer concert. There will be audience participation and lots of laughs!

Attendees are asked to bring a blanket or chair for their comfort; and non-alcoholic beverages, picnic dinners, and snacks are permitted on the grounds unless the concert is moved indoors due to weather conditions. Everyone is asked to please take their trash with them when they leave.

In the event of the threat of inclement weather or such weather, the concert will be moved just up the street to the auditorium of the Jefferson Township High School, 1010 Weldon Road. For information and updates, log on to www.jeffersonarts.org, www.jeffersontownship.net, or call 973-697-2032 or 697-3828 to inquire.

Come out on Friday evening, June 24th – what a great way to start the summer and end the week. Remember, dancing and singing along is always encouraged!
