Lauren Saxer receives JAC scholarship award

The Jefferson Arts Committee is pleased to announce that Lauren Saxer of Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey is the 2007 recipient of the group's annual scholarship award. Ranking 59th in her Jefferson Township High School graduating class of 274, Lauren will be attending Rutgers University's Mason Gross School of the Arts in September. Actively interested and involved in dance and theater, her career goals include performing on Broadway, being part of a professional dance company, and perhaps becoming a Dance Therapist.

Lauren was one of 12 students selected as a New Jersey Governor's School of the Arts 2006 Dance Scholar in the summer of 2006. She spent the month of July 2006 at The College of New Jersey where she trained and performed at a professional level and realized that her passion for dance and the arts was something she needed to keep in her life. Lauren had the hands-on opportunity in school to be the Dance Choreographer as well as an actress in the High School's 2006 fall drama and 2007 spring musical. "I have dedicated my life to dance," wrote Lauren in her scholarship application to the Arts Committee. "I love dancing, it is my life and always will be."

Taking several Honors and Advanced Placement classes in her senior year, Lauren was still very active in after-school activities at JTHS and served on the Steering Committee of the Peer Development Program, was an Each One-Reach-One Leader, served as Class Secretary, was active on the Student Council Activities Committee, served as President of the Interact Club, was a member of the Red Cross and Drama Club during her senior year. Somehow, Lauren also has time to work at Jefferson Dairy and is an assistant dance teacher at the dance studio she attends.

The Jefferson Arts Committee's mission is to provide cultural activities for the residents of Jefferson Township and its neighboring communities, promote an active interest in cultural affairs by the community, and encourage participation of youth in these activities. To meet its commitment to youth, every year the group awards a scholarship to a graduating Jefferson Township student pursuing a career in the arts. Scholarship Chairperson Liz Mangold and her committee believed that Lauren was the best candidate who applied for the 2007 scholarship award, and the entire Jefferson Arts Committee wishes Lauren the best of luck in pursuing her dreams.
