Township Parade

Township Parade returns to Jefferson Township Day!

The 29th annual Jefferson Township Day celebration is getting closer, and the Jefferson Arts Committee is extremely happy to announce that the Township Parade along Weldon Road will return this coming July 11th.  Parade Chairperson Mike Murphy with members of American Legion Post #423 have been working hard to ensure that the parade returns in all its glory and that the lineup is exciting so everyone will come out and enjoy it on Saturday, July 11 beginning at 11am in Jefferson Township,  NJ.

Right now, the lineup will be led by the Jefferson Township High School Golden Falcons Marching Band, and several groups have already committed to participate either as marchers, in vehicles, on bicycles, or on floats: the Jefferson Township Historical Society, the Boy Scouts, American Legion Post #423, Country Day School, and Fire Company No. 1’s Ladies Auxiliary.  Murphy is lining up some other groups and they will be announced once they officially commit to participate.

The Decorated Bicycle Parade and Contest overseen by the Joseph F. Lamb Knights of Columbus Council returns this year as well as part of the parade; and as in the past, there will be convertibles transporting dignitaries and Grand Marshalls Debi Merz and Eric Wilsusen – Mayor Felter’s 2014 Citizens of the Year.

If your child participated in the Arts Karts Races over the past two years, they are welcome to ride their karts in the parade this year but there will not be an Arts Karts Race.

Murphy hopes that other township organizations, groups, churches, schools, etc. will come forward to be part of this event revival.  If you or your group/organization would be interested in participating in this old-fashioned township parade, please contact Murphy at 908-208-5190 or at globemaster2@hotmail.com as soon as possible.

In addition, everything you want to know about Jefferson Township Day XXIX is starting to be posted as activities are confirmed on www.jeffersonarts.org and on the Jefferson Arts Committee’s Facebook page.  Questions can be emailed to artscommittee@jeffersonarts.org or by calling 973-697-2032 or 973-697-3828.

Please note that Weldon Road will be closed for the parade at approximately 10:30am and will re-open at approximately 11:45am on Saturday, July 11th so plan your route accordingly.  Attendees and participants are asked to follow the posted signs and directions of all Police Officers and Parade Marshalls.

Gather up your family and friends and line Weldon Road to cheer on the beginning of a great day of fun and entertainment in Jefferson Township.
